A wonderful video and a fascinating craft. I have often wondered about the design of these iconic canoes, and how one would be to paddle, but the chances of that for most of us are zero to slim.
Apart from being driven by the available materials, is there a hydrodynamic advantage to the shape, or is it good for speed or long distance?
The more familiar Eastern birchbark canoes, the huge sea canoes of the West Coast and the kayaks of the North wwere all so important to their communities and are such masterful performers in their respective environments that I am curious about what considerations or conditions produce such an unusual shape of boat.
