: Just received an 8qt kit of epoxy from Raka and noticed a
: considerable difference in the color of the hardener compared to
: the old epoxy I purchased several years ago (7-8 years). (SEE
: PIC) Can I still use the old hardener for seal coat and glassing
: ? It seemed to work well for filling holes when mixed with wood
: dust. I'm building a modified 14' Guiellmot and plan to use 6oz
: glass.
: Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Dan,
I used some ten year old System Three hardener and it had the same yellow colour. The boat turned out to have a similar tint- couldn't get true coloured cedar- lighter wood came out a muddy yellow and darks same. Still get oohs and aahs from the public when I unload the boat off the car. Only boat makers seem to know the difference. But the good news is that like the others said it didn't seem to affect the cureing time or strength of the bond... this boat has survived portaging with a load in it on the Bowron Lake chain and some other camping trips in and around B.C.
