I have found that the plastic spreaders tend to acquire nicks fairly quickly. Are the rubber spreaders more durable? On that note, Donnie (Waters Dancing Kit Kayaks, here in Edmonton) suggested I try using a knife to trim the rough edges of the plastic spreaders. I tried that using a metal straight edge and it worked well.
