first off, how complex a model? I would suggest a skin on frame model, go to yostwerks.com. SeeBee or SeaTour are good for this purpose. If you wanted a full scale non-water model, look at his folding versions, but use plywood frames and pvc pipe. Do the whole thing for 30-40$. For a smaller one, scale it down to whatever size you need, probably 1:6 or 1:10 If you need a hand working it out, PM me. For a solid model, go over to Blue Heron kayaks, and get Kayak Foundry. It is a design pgm for strip built boats. Look at strip built kayaks on google for the howto...

as for a canopy, have you ever heard of a hat? just joking, i'm sure you want it as a design element....

heres a simple idea that works well for my recumbent trike buddies. 2 long fiberglass poles, curved into an arc over you, from behind the cockpit to over the front. a cloth or petscreen canpoy is attached with simple hemmed pockets sewn on the edges. you could put a small batten board with angles holes under the deck rigging to hold the poles. for cheap poles, go to home depot/lowes and get driveway marker poles. cost about 3 bucks each. use alum tubing for a ferrule to join. works damn well, seen 'em hang on at 45 mph down hills
