Hi Joe,
I second the heat gun method, I've used it successfully. And in a dusty workshop. The heat gun I hava has two settings hot and very hot, with two speeds, slow and not so slow. The low speed doesn't shift much air about.
The heat gun is also handy with small pieces, you can heat the piece a bit then let it start cooling before applying epoxy. It seems to suck more resin into the wood surface. Not very far, just filling any pores.
