Hot glue is great in the shop. I use it all the time, especially for form work and stapleless stripping.
One warning: make sure you get all the hotglue blobs off before you start sanding. A few missed ones will quickly gum up a sanding disk and smear hotglue all over the place. Don't ask how I know this...
