I have a Bosch sander that has two handles, like the one in Rob's photo. I feel it gives me better control and it runs smoother than a smaller one. BUT- I use my sander a lot for a lot of things, not just kayaks. In Fine Woodworking tests this sander had virtually the same dust collection rate as the Fein, but at 1/3 the cost.

For dust collection I use an Oneida Dust Deputy hooked up to a 5-gallon pail as a separator and a shop-vac with a Gore HEPA filter. The only thing I don't like about my setup is that the vac doesn't turn off when the sander does like the Bosch and Fein vacuums, I have to turn it off myself.
