Hi Robert
'Tis true I tell ya.about the planting and harvesting bit.And, also,the sun:
The Hawaiians would select their Waka trees by going into the hills & finding a suitable tree on top of an east/west [I think] lying ridge,where the less sunny side produces tree growth rings closer, so is denser and on the more sunny side the tree growth rings are more apart so less dense.This was then dragged down to the sea and the heavy side of the log became the bottom of the Waka [massive canoe] .They new a thing or two back then, I say.They managed to get to NZ in these boats but they lost the ability to navigate back to Hawaii,so it is told.
