The normal pneumatic random orbit sander really isn't a random orbit, it's close but if any pressure is applied it turns into an orbital making circles on whatever is sanded. Can't happen on any decent brand electric.

I've killed a bunch of sanders over the years and now only use Bosch (Makita is good too btw). I've got an old one with the side handle that I lost the dust bag years ago and now duct tape on a tube and one of the new ones with the square-ish snap on filter that works great and is lots quieter than running a wet vac. Just too cumbersome to try to hook up the dust blower to a sander.
