: I made a lot of use of Rob Macks book and the pair of books by Nick
: Shade. The boat is 4 oz cloth with an extra layer of same on the
: hull bottom. I used 3 in wide, 9 oz tape for the inside seam and
: the keel. I used 2 inch wide, 9 oz on the outside seam.
: Feathering in the selvedge was easiest if started in the green
: state with a sharp carving gouge (I have a nice Pfeil, Swiss
: Made 25 mm #4 sweep gouge available from Woodcraft.) I used
: cabinet scrapers as much as possible (I have about 2 dozen
: Swedish-type cabinet scrapers and the WoodRiver Deluxe Scraper
: set.) Then ROS with 80 grit and 120 grit for the external
: surfaces. The internal surfaces ended up a bit rougher, but I
: was pretty careful not to have any sharp egges to snag fabric
: stuff sacks, that I might stuff into the hatches (I plan to use
: the boat for camping.) For sanding the inner extents of the bow
: and stern I took a 1 1/8" diameter closet rod and hot glued
: "Pool Noodle" foam and glued 100 grit sandpaper to it.
Thanks for the response John. That's helpful. Very best, Mark
