I will third that, I built a 16.5' one. Fairly steep v hull with rounded corners going up to the gunwales. Empty it takes a bit of getting used to, the only other people who have paddled it empty have capsized it shortly after launch. I can paddle it okay empty. Add about 20 pounds of water, or even better a few hundred pounds of gear though and that boat wont tip over for anything. Can take four foot breaking waves broadside with nary a correction, leans perfectly in. Deck stays dry, and water doesn't even come up to the cockpit.
