Interestingly, the one time I fell into the river during Feb, the river was largely covered with ice. I was pretty warm while in the water but once I got out, I could feel the cold seep into my bones quite quickly...fortunately, I was only a 5 minute kayak drag to the car. As long as I was in the water, my clothes (drytop and two pair of heavy running tights with booties) kept me really comfortable. My tights have that wetsuit effect...keeps the water touching my skin warm but once it is touched by air, it cools down fast.
