: I found a picturesque little lake in Northern New Hampshire, U.S.A.
: to launch the Guillemot L. The name of the lake is Forest Lake
: and it is about halfway between the towns of Bethlehem and
: Whitefield. Some friends and I drove up there on Friday
: afternoon and tossed her in. She does not track as straight as
: my Necky Elahu kayak, but I will work on the paddling technique
: a bit before I put a skeg in her.
: In the video the snow capped mountain is Mt. Lafayette (5269'), and
: the large non-snow capped are the Twins (north and south, about
: 4700'.)
I would recommend putting a skeg on your Gully L. I completed mine last December, and just dropping the skeg down an inch or two really improves the tracking. Here in Florida, I paddle mangrove creeks with tight turns to open passes and bays with wind and tide conditions. By dropping skeg( inch or two) in the open water, I could consistly maintain 5 mile/hr. with a top speed GPS tracking of 6.1 mile/hr surfing down some waves. To save time I bought a skeg from Kajak Sports out of Finland, but, there are some fine designs on this forum.
