Some people have had good success painting cars with Rustoleum enamel. I saw one that was done in 8-10 thin coats (thinned the paint before application) with wetsanding in between coats that actually turned out really nice, and held up very well.
Here's an instructable for a blue miata, Iv'e also seen a white corvair and an orange 60's hot rod done with Rustoleum.
