: Epoxy adheres to wood beter than any paint or varnish. That is why
: it is used as a glue. It seals wood so well it doesn't matter
: what you coat it with. Epoxy is protecting the wood. The paint
: or varnish is just going along for the ride.
: The only caveat is some epoxies generate a substance called
: "amin blush" that is waxy and must be scrubbed off
: with water. Even for epoxies that claim no amin blush it's worth
: the effort to wash the epoxy surface down anyway.
: If any particular paint needs a primer to adhere to epoxy it's
: because of the peculiarities of the paint. Epoxy itself is not
: very porous and fairly inert.

Amine blush, yes. Also if the epoxy isn't totally cured, you can have issues with paint.

The paint/varnish isn't really just "along for the ride" no epoxy is totally UV proof, so needs some degree of protection from the sun.
