Would you believe that when I inhale lots of air and hold it in, my body expands like a balloon so that I float like a buoy? I didn't think the pic would get printed for that very reason but it did. I AM wearing a dry top including everything I need to stay warm in case of immersion, Rob, not including the skull cap, though. That said, I was in only two feet of water...the river is very shallow where that ice is sitting. In fact, most of the river is shallow except where the main channel runs and any time I have tipped over, I have been swept to the shallows in seconds. I am in no way defending the fact that I generally do not wear a pfd while on the river...I just don't because this river is not a danger in my eyes. I do wear the pfd any time the weather is crappy and I am on a large body of water because those are conditions when I know it could come in handy. However, if the river was at flood levels, I would definitely be wearing that pfd, that is when the river is more unpredictable.

All that said, mom never nags me about the pfd.
