: Hi All,
: I had to apply the first coat of epoxy and cloth to my strip built
: guillemot L. a few months ago (early winter and prob too cold)
: to strenghten it all for an unplanned move from the shed it was
: started in. Now that Im back to it Ive found that the glass
: clearly shows the cloth weave and the finish isnt very clear.
: Will the finish improve if I sand back lightly and apply a
: second coat of epoxy as a filler or will I need to go back to
: the wood and start again. This is my first build and whilst Im
: not completely fussy about the final finish I would like to at
: least make a stab at getting it right. Hope you can help. Paul
You should have weave showing after the first coat. Continuing applying layers until the weave is filled (I recommend disposable foam rollers). Due to the time between coats, you should sand, but be very gentle. If you cut into the glass, it may show in the final finish. The finish will be a little hazy until you start applying your varnish.
