I screwed a couple of upright 2 x 4's to the workshop wall, a few feet apart, drilled them and inserted 1-1/4 hardwood dowels in each one to form a rack with space for 3 kayaks. Short lengths of pool noodle over the dowels protect the boats, and a couple of quick-release racheting car-top tie-downs, passed through strategically-located screw-eyes holds them in place in all seasons. That's all I need right now, but it sure would be nice to move some of the other boats out of the workshop so I can build more (and bigger) boats!

The workshop and rack are on the North side of the house so the boats are in shade. I wanted to build a lean-to roof along the pathway "to keep the pathway clear for the meter-readers in the Winter" but the wife saw through that in a flash. At least she has stopped asking why I keep building boats; I'm not sure whether that is a good sign or a bad sign . . .
