These two keel strips would transition from laying horizontal mid ships to vertical at the stems ie [almost]a 90 degree twist in each strip.The outer stems which are yet to be put on, would [could] need these two strips mostly planned off in this area to make the landing for the stems to be glued on.
I guess this is what your after.
