Sorry if I did not make my statement clear.

In my experience, the outwale of a canoe is subject to more abuse than any other
part of a canoe since it projects out from the boat and is an edge rather than a surface.

Most of the damage is from off water handling, loading and unloading where the canoe
is rested on the side as it's lifted on or off a vehicle or carried on a portage.

Your experience may vary.

It's great people have options to build their gunnels in different ways!
