I'd like to disagree with you there John. A strip BP is a 'plastic' kayak, even if the wood is clear coated it's covered in glass and epoxy and is too perfect for the traditional look. Most people looking at it will think it came out of a mould.
I put traditional decklines on my BP and think they look a bit wrong. Could have added a perimeter line so that it is easier to get hold of. (*thinks* then I'd loose the clean uncluttered look.) My SOF with ballistic nylon and Corey's goop looks a bit plastic but with some mottled dyeing I think the wood and deer antler sliders look OK (white polyester cord less so).
Go with the PVC pipe, Sean. Should work well.
