Although you may have sanded more than necessary for refinishing, my thought is that you should probably sand the entire boat to the same level, or at least down to the epoxy, in order to make sure that you end up with an even finish. If you're hitting glass, you may want to put on another coat or two of epoxy before applying the finish.
