: The reference to telfon tape is that I wrap the mini glue stick
: with teflon tape before fitting into the fiberglass sleeve.
this is my method. I don't use 5 minute epoxy, but I do use WestSystem Fast Hardener with no problems.
The key (obvious) is to prepare in advance.
I've done it two ways.
New deck, I placed the gluestick/teflon wrapped/ glass sleeve forms in holes and then epoxy in place. It drips but it's fast.
For retro fitting I drill the holes in the deck, but I pre-epoxy the forms held in cheap white plastic cutting boards.
When these are set I place them in the predrilled holes on the deck. In areas near the bow and stern that cannot be reached from the inside, I make the holes slightly larger. I think I drill the deck 1/2" (To hold them in place I use the green/blue masking tape)
I mix a thickened batch, butter the ends poke them through the hull. pulling them up and down to coat the bare wood in the opening.
All of this with Fast Hardener, but not 5 minute.
Once everything is in place, applying epoxy takes less than ten minutes.
