: Where I live, Newfoundland, Juniper is the name for larch or
: tamarack. Our "Juniper" is very heavy, knotty and not
: fit for strip building. Granted you'd have a very strong boat
: but heavy as all get out. Juniper was used for boatbuilding but
: normally for ribs and knees in planked vessels like schooners or
: other fishig boats. It's also used for flooring due to its
: durability.

: I used eastern white pine on my Black Pearl and it was cheap, easy
: to find and turned out to be very light. I only used 4mm thick
: strips.
