In the past I've made foam knee hooks which I've glued under the deck/coaming, but would like to try wooden ones on the kayak that I'm making for my nephew. I've stripped the deck and the cockpit recess, but have not yet done the coaming or even cut out the cockpit opening. I am considering just lengthening the strips of the recess so that they'd narrow the space at the front of the cockpit opening. I'd put on the coaming then run an extra layer of strips under the recess and under the coaming so that they extend to where the paddler's knees will be.
Does anyone have dimensions for a comfortable size and distance apart, for where the knees should be? Also, I'd like a shape template if anyone has one. I've always just used trial and error with the foam ones, trimming until they are comfortable.
Thanks,
John
