Scratches are easy. Just sand the area and pint on some epoxy letting it settle into the deeper scratch. How do you know when you got all the varnish off? You don't but don't worry about it.
Dings: Usually require major sugary. Because we use soft wood with a layer of glass, dings often go white as the wood compresses and the glass fibers fracture. One way is to sand the varinsh a bit and mix artist oil paint with varnish and do a cover up. Or, you can cut away the glass with an Exacto knife, sand the area and put a tiny patch of glass on it or just epoxy. I hate to break the news to all of you if you haven't figured it out yet. but strippers are great boats but the resistance to dings is terrible and terrible to fix, if at all. Once you put epoxy back over the patch, your chances of it matching the former color is 0. But whatever way you go, it will look less obvious than a white ding mark. I have a few right now that need fixing and have done many in the past.
