I made a wood hatch with a Southco Marine compression latch http://www.southco.com/product/class.aspx?cid=7379. Do you mean that sort of thing, or the knob-closed style of Shearwater kayaks? http://www.shearwater-boats.com/Knobhatchkit.htm
