Dave,

Sounds like my first experience with a wet suit 40 years ago. It was too big. Since I had no money, I got a can of neoprene cement and started in with some scissors. You have to know I cut out too much, cut it open again and added back in a strip. None of the seams ever let go, the cement works great.
I suggest you go to a store and measure one to match your boat, and start cutting.
The skirt I have (bought to fit the boat) has some play between myself and the coaming, but will not pop off until I pull the rope in front.

Make it fit.
