I don't see why one would want to do it this way. You really want the deck to have some strength as you cut out and then make the coaming as well as the hatches and hatch lips. I could see wanting to just have the outer deck glass also used to join the hull and deck, but this is only a minor advantage. I would say it is much better to glass the deck's outside and inside pretty well right after one another, and then be sure to make spacer bars to hold the shape while you do the coaming and hatch work. I used bias cut 2 inch wide fiberglass to join the deck and hull, and after fill coats and feathering the edges, it is hard to see at all.
