33 years ago, I went on a backpacking trip in Colorado. We never saw an eagle and never really looked. If you had asked me at the time whether I thogh I might ever see a bald eagle, I would have responded: "I really doubt it".
Yet, I've seen a dozen or so over the past 5 years. I fact the loon and other waterfowl populations are down considerably on Squam Lake, because the eagles have learned that loon chicks are easy picking. They pick on the osprey also, stealing the fish from them, after the osprey has done the hard work. Bad-ass bird indeed!
