: I finished taping the inside seam on my Gilly and having a real
: time of it trying to get rid of the strands and glue from the
: strapping tape. Has anyone found a solvent or better way to
: remove the gunk? I tried sanding but this just speads the mess
: but does make it so i can see how much is till left on the boat.
: Scrapper work pretty well but seams to take forever. Any
: thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks Joe
The best way to avoid problems with strapping tape residue may be to not use the stuff in the first place. Home Depot sells poly straps (NOT tape) with cinching levers that you can wrap around whatever needs strapping and then winch as tightly together as you'd like. Glue doesn't stick to the plastic strap, and it comes off easily when you release the winch handle. I think they come in a 3 or 4-pack for about $10. You can use them to attach the finished kayak to the car afterwards. No fuss, no muss.
