If you saw the photo I posted of my thumb in the ER, that wouldn't have happened if my saw had an riving knife. I was cutting scarfs on the end of stringers. To you have that small wedge shaped cutoff. It vibrated between the spliter and blade and was launched at me. I think they are the single best safety idea ever on a table saw.
