I had this idea to try, but havn't yet. Use foam pipe insulation with rope caulk (foam rod sold from a roll for caulking concrete) to hold the round shape, tape in place and lay the glass over it. The rounded shape should be stronger than the more squared off shapes normally used so the glass/CF layup can be lighter for a similiar strength.
