Here is a slightly redesigned Sea Tour Double. This was built for a long distance race called the MR340. The race is 340 miles across Missouri non stop that is not a stage race. I am not paddling in this event but my good friend Doug and his Nephew Jack are. They are two extreme athletes who plan to paddle nonstop for the entire race.

What we did was take Tom Yost's Sea Tour and narrowed it up by multiplying the HB dimensions by .825 this made a 21.5" beam. We then added 3" to each station spacing this streched it to 21.5" length. The frame is cedar and 1/2" plywood. Lashed and glued joints with an 8oz poly skin. Skin coating is stained and urethane coated. The coamings are streched to 33" so they can lift their knees and move around. We built strip floor boards and glassed them into the keel and 3rd chine. With glass seats from Superior Kayak for long distance comfort.

Helping Doug and Jack build a SOF tandum for the MR340 was lots of fun with big thanks to Tom Yost for providing a splinded design to start from. I know Doug and Jack are hooked now. With their limited budjet and some part time work they now have a fine race kayak. I hoped this will make a statement for the viability of a skin on frame kayak in this type of compitition.
