It has been a longtime dream of mine to live in a lighthouse. I even have rough plans drawn up for my next house (read: "pipe dream") that will have a lighthouse with the top being a master bedroom with glass all around. Imagine my surprise when I saw on the GSA Auction site http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucalsrh/ If you click on Real Estate, there are a number of lighthouses up for sale, with prices ranging from $10,000 to $60,000 current bids. Some are land-based, some offshore, including one that's just a light sticking out of the water that would be a cool place to kayak to, hang out away from all the noise and... wait... NOISE. AHA! Read the fine print that says these lights remain active and contain a very powerful foghorn. So during clear days I guess it would be great, but on foggy days every 15 seconds- BRRRROOOOOOOMMMMMPPPPPPP!!!!

So I guess that explains the low bids. Anyway, if you ever wanted to own a lighthouse now would be the time to get one cheap.
