In the US, paint thinner and mineral spirits are generally the same thing. Although it's a good idea to follow the manufacturer's recommendation (some have proprietary thinners), mineral spirits should work with pretty much any varnish.

Lacquer thinner is a different product and isn't suitable for varnish.
