: I forgot to add- since someone else mentioned it- After I oil the
: paddle with Deks Olje I let it sit for about a day and the
: burnish it with bone, just like they did for thousands(?) of
: years in Greenland. I really makes the oil last longer, but it's
: WRC. It's going to ding. Nothing you can do about that. I use
: ash tips, though, so no worries there. Before I re-oil I run
: over it with 00 steel wool, oil, and then burnish again. In the
: spring and late summer if I paddle a lot.

I use mahogany tips, does the same thing but is slightly lighter. Also the hardwood tips allow the ends of the paddle to be skinnier with a smaller radius on the tips which reduce noise when paddling and don't get beat up as easily than if they were all WRC.
