I install the SeaLect rudder systems on customers boats if they want a rudder. I find it easy to install, however it only comes with one type of pin unlike the SealLine which has several options of mounting brackets and housings. With SeaLect, you will either need to custom shape the end of your kayak to house the rudder pin which is required to go through and exit so that the retaining ring can be inserted. In other words, the end of your kayak will need a block of wood attached, shaped and reinforced so that the pin can exit the block. Or you purchase a mounting bracket to attach to the end of your kayak. It can not be held down with a screw inserted into the deck of the kayak due to the placement of the rudder in the up position. I like the fact that both have the rudder go down on its own under spring tension so you only have one line to the cockpit to pull the rudder up, but I am not sure I like the position of the SealLine blade in the up position. The SeaLect does not pivot over onto the deck with a big "thunk" and does not require a "V" block to hold it centered on the deck when up. Price wise, SeaLect is less than SealLIne. A whole kit will run around $190 Can without mounting bracket which includes everything needed to install. $25 more for a bracket. My search shows SeaLine around $250 US.
Not having installed a SealLine and followed their instructions, I don't know how complete SealLine's are. SeaLect's is useful but not as detailed and clear as I would write if I were to do it so when I sell the kits I end up answering questions re: installs.
