I've done 5 boats with VCPs and one with Kayak Sport hatches all done with epoxy and never a problem.
VCPs have drill out hole marks and I drill out the holes which further strengthens the bond. The Kayak sport ones don't.
I roughen up the surface good with a piece of coarse sanding belt.
