Mine are approx. 3/4" x 1" stock, cedar will work. Need to be glued on so they protrude above the hull sides so they can be trimmed to fit the deck curvature. How this works depends on the deck shape, pretty easy with a Greenland shaped hull/deck with the deck being fairly flat, takes more work if the heck is more domed shape.
