Ahh, I misunderstood what you were referring to, and you're right - in both plan and section views. To some degree it's the old compromise between the difficulty of hunting and pecking for a narrow slot or just settling for a huge wide bell-mouthed gap. Following the same turbulence reasoning the last part of his blade should follow the keel line instead of curving upward.
