: Hello everyone,
: Just like in this post by Aaron H
:
: it's been about a year since I built my kayak coated in flat black
: and I have the same hairline cracks/pinholes (when I carry the
: kayak it looks like constellations in the cockpit...). In some
: areas along the keel, gunwales, chines and stem plates it has
: peeled off and amazingly no serious leakage (maybe 1/4 water in
: 4 hrs).
: I am not reskinning anytime soon so I am inclined to get regular
: enamel oil based rustoleum (satin black or leather brown), sand,
: coat twice and forget about it... Any opinions/experience on
: such???
: Thanks
: Gustav
Hi Gustav,
Go for it. I use exterior enamel on my SoF's, you have to sand and re-coat every year or so. One of mine didn't get used for a while and the paint 'faded away' until I could clearly see the texture of the canvas. A light sanding, clean and re-coat made is as good as new.
Put the coats on thin, it stays more flexible that way.
