: When I first started in this sport, I had a Current Design Sirroco
: on top of my car at work one night without a cockpit cover and
: had a big driving rain go thru. Thought that not that much water
: would enter the boat, in the morning (work nights) I got into
: the car and when I first moved it heard this loud sloshing
: noise, stopped and checked the boat and found the water about
: 3" from the deck, or almost full. Had to bail it, with a
: coffee cup, while on the roof standing on the door sill, trust
: me, you don't want to do this :)

The beams I described in my previous post allow me to securely carry the kayak upside-down on the roof racks so I do not need a cockpit cover, but for other arrangements I agree a cover should be used.
