Agreed! Because this is fuselage construction it has 5 plywood stations in 13 feet. This makes the hole in the station nearest each stem is fairly small (because the station is so small). I figured my son would have a hard time threading a float bag all the way into the stem compartments so why not install access so he can store a few things (in partially inflated dry bags). He could also use the hatch to straighten the float bag in the adjacent flotation compartment.

So, how thick was the plywood on the hatches? I would think that 1/8th inch would be sufficient and wouldn't add a huge amount of weight.
