Thanks for the information guys. I was thinking of combining a hollow handle with a couple of spoon style ply blades just to give it a try. I feel encouraged. I carved a super-light paddle from WRC a few years ago but it was too weak and never got used. I've been feeling a bit embarrassed using a rather expensive Gray Owl with a canoe that cost less than $50 . . . although it's the boat that gets all the attention!
