: We must be birds of a feather. I happened to come across that same
: article on a web search. I was surprised to see a Grizzly tool
: getting a high rating in such a category as fine Japanese
: chisels. It is certainly a great way to get my feet wet without
: getting my wallet soaked! I am going to order one an play around
: with it. I am intrigued with the sharpening method. I can
: certainly see how they would also be very good for paring (which
: I am often doing with chisels) but don't see them being great a
: chopping and morticing. (Except for some that I have seen that
: are dedicated for such and have a thicker, longer blade design.)

I did a quick web search for reviews on the Grizzly Japanese chisels - some rate them highly.
However, I also found a review from a local (Victoria BC) very skilled professional woodworker, Chico Sakman.

Chico didn't think much of the Grizzly chisels.

For a few dollars more, you can get 'budget' chisels from JapanWoodworker
http://www.japanwoodworker.com/dept.asp?s=JapanWoodworker&dept_id=12769

I've dealt with both Grizzly and Japanwoodworker (neither for chisels) and I trust JapanWoodworker to be able to evaluate quality.

Just a thought....
