: Well I have long been using water stones, and I am still using them

I just use a wet piece of 2000 grit wet-or-dry (stuck to a piece of glass with 3M spray adhesive) for my "out there past 8000 grit" polishing... working with sharp chisels and plane blades has a satisfaction all its own....

Just found a large Stanley jack plane at a flea market with an abused blade... probably use up a 200 grit water stone getting all the dings out....
