I have built both stitch & glue hybrid and strip boats. 2 S & G and 7 strips. Using 3/16 " strips and 3.2 oz glass, CF coaming, Magnetized hatches including a day hatch, using mostly cedar the pictured 16' 6" Iggy weighs in at 29 LB. Most of the weight savings is in the strips and glass, but the design (low volume) also has a lot to do with it. I used Meranti plywood, 4 MM which is not all that light, turned out to be a heavier boat than an all-strip at 3/16.
