Why 6 coats?

In Response To: Material: Marine grade spar varnish????? (Chris Wynne)

I admire your tenacity and fortitude but is it because you want an absolutely perfect deep showroom finish?

Most people do two or sometimes three unless they really love varnishing and sanding.
