Yes epoxy was available then and I built (late 1960s?) a racing dinghy hull glassing over polystyrene foam with epoxy as polyester resin would eat the foam. The first S&Gs I did were back in 1983, also with epoxy.

Bits of it fell down, including the Timeball Station, the building that had a ball drop at noon for ships to correct their chronometers 100+ years ago. Otherwise the harbour is OK though one looks at caves carefully and a lot of headlands also fell down. I was about to publish a kayak guide book for Banks Peninsula and a very big arch became a sea stack at Sleepy Bay so a hurried edit there, just after the first earthquake September 2011. That one 7+ was just up the road from where we live!
